Stagemakers at the J presents 'Guys and Dolls'

"Guys and Dolls," the Damon Runyon character musical is being presented at the Jewish Community Center by the Stagemakers at the J, students who attend public and private schools in the Valley but who take performing arts classes at the JCC, Allentown.

The five-week class culminates in a show production.

"Guys and Dolls" is an all-time favorite musical concerning gangsters, gamblers and other characters of the New York underworld.

The story is by Damon Runyon; music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

The show is being directed by Syd Stauffer and choreographed by Jennifer Dorn.

Musical director is Rebecca Knappenberger. Stage manager is Sara Keller, a 2004 Parkland High graduate.

Well-known songs fill the show.

"Sit Down You are Rockin' the Boat" is sung by Nicely-Nicely Johnson, played by Aydele Brenner, a Jewish Day School student.

Miss Adelaide, who sings "A Bushel and a Peck" and "Take Back Your Mink" is played by Jessica Baar, a Parkland High student. "If I Were a Bell" is sung by Sarah Brown. She is played by Parkland High student Ellen McCauley.

"Luck Be a Lady" is sung by Sky Masterson, played by Paul Alonso, an Allentown Central Catholic student.
