North Whitehall Twp. accepting tires for recycling after April 1

North Whitehall supervisors had a very light agenda March 4, with the board adjourning before 8 p.m.

After approval of the minutes of last month's meeting and the treasurer's report, the board returned to agenda items.

Tires will not be accepted for recycling at the township facility until April 1.

Township offices will be closed March 29 for Good Friday.

Lehigh County Assessment reported a correction and will be refunding a small amount of tax money on a property.

Also, a request was put forth for exoneration from real estate tax collection on two properties within the township.

One is located along Jaguar Court; the other is along Cedar Street. The board approved the exonerations.

Township Manager Jeff Bartlett was authorized to advertise for bids for the upcoming year.

Bids will be sought for road materials, in-place jobs, equipment rental, fuel, sodium chloride and land rental.

Bartlett reported the reconstruction of the Sand Spring and Route 309 intersection is proceeding as scheduled.

Resident Ronald Roth asked about the status of the Walmart Superstore planned for a site near the Schnecksville Fire Company, along Route 309..

Supervisor Steve Pany reported building was on hold for now and might not be started until 2014.

Roth continued to voice his concern from last month's meeting concerning heliports.

The zoning appeal, which he was concerned with, was denied but the appellant has filed an appeal with Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas.

Roth contended the Zoning Hearing Board solicitor should excuse himself from the case due to a conflict of interest.

Bartlett stated the question was posed to the State Ethic Commission and they saw no conflict.

Resident Jeanine Bauer asked about the status of the proposed sewage treatment plants on Jordan and Coplay creeks.

Pany said at this point in time nothing was happening.

Paperwork was filed with the Department of Environmental Protection for the Coplay Creek plant and the township is awaiting the review letter.

Supervisor Mark Hills told The Press he is running for a full term as supervisor. He was appointed last year to replace Jerome Joseph after he resigned in May.
