U. Mac firefighters respond to 123 emergency calls
Upper Macungie Township Fire Commissioner Grant Grim's report to supervisors at the Feb. 7 included: 42 fire inspections; 123 emergency responses (Stations 8-33, 25-41 and 56-49); 206 EMS responses (priority 1 - 69, priority 2 - 66 and priority 3 - 68, with three mutual aid requests).
Twelve permits were issued by the zoning office for new residences, 24 permits for residential additions, 18 permits for commercial and industrial additions, and 42 miscellaneous permits.
A zoning appeal regarding T.H. Properties was continued until March 27.
The Public Works Department was busy in January.
Along with plowing and salting roads, roadside mowing and tree trimming were also done.
Mulch is being ground up more or less continuously. Inside projects include painting shop walls, equipment repairs and refinishing the upstairs bathroom at Independent Park.
Recurring items are meter reading, delivering trash carts, pump station checks and televising sewer lines, in conjunction with Keystone Consulting Engineers, Wescosville.
Barry Moyer was appointed as the township's representative for the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System.
The board accepted the resignation of Zoning Officer and Code Enforcement Officer Al Geosits, and appointed Keystone to take his place.
The company will serve on a temporary trial basis for 90 days. At that time, a cost analysis will be studied to determine the best way to proceed for replacement of Geosits.
Terry Trumbauer was hired as a mechanic. His duties will be working on township vehicles and, if needed, plowing and salting roads.
Lehigh Valley Wheelmen Association requested permission to have practice sessions in the William Penn Business Center area.
They will be cycling 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. every Sunday in March.
General Code Publishers will update the township Code Book by adding all new ordinances adopted in 2012 and revising any additional necessary items.
The board has agreed to sell one of the police vehicles, a 2006 Dodge Charger, to the Borough of Coopersburg. Proceeds will go into the Upper Macungie police budget.
Supervisors authorized advertisement of an ordinance containing some zoning ordinance changes and the vacation of a portion of Oak Lane.
A public hearing is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. March 7.
A fire truck replacement agreement was adopted. Any money obtained from the sale of fire trucks will go into the replacement fund to buy more equipment.
