Electronics to be recycled

With electronic recycling becoming mandatory Jan. 24 across the state, Northampton Borough Council advised its residents the borough facility located at King Street "can accept any and all electronics except refrigerators, freezers and dehumidifiers."

Electronic equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines and TVs, cannot be put out for regular refuse collection. Officials said just about anything that has an electric cord is part of the Commonwealth's new recycling mandate.

· Police Chief Ron Morey holds a walk-through at the middle school on a regular basis, according to Councilman Robert McHale, police and code committee chairman. The school staff sent Morey a card in appreciation for his visits to the school.

· The D.A.R.E. (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education) program conducted by Morey has begun at Good Shepherd Catholic School and Col. John Siegfried Elementary School. The state no longer provides subsidies for the program so the borough and the Veterans of Foreign Wars came up with the required funding.
