Huber has carried soccer success to Bloom

It didn't take long for Tara Huber to put a stamp on the Bloomsburg soccer program.

She played in 19 games as a freshman in 2010 and led the team in goals with nine. She also had four assists that year, and helped Bloomsburg reach the PSAC tournament finals.

In 17 games as a sophomore the next year, Huber tallied six goals and four assists.

"I came in and worked really hard," Huber said. "Once you get onto the soccer field, you don't look at it as if you're in different grades. I just had confidence and wasn't afraid of the older girls.

"Since I've been playing since my freshman year, I've just had the confidence. Being on the field early, I knew I could be playing with these college girls and play at this level. I just love playing the game."

As a junior this year, the Parkland grad is looked at as a major contributor being an experienced, proven upperclassmen. So far she hasn't disappointed.

In 10 games, Huber has netted five goals and an assist. A game-winning goal came in the 77th minute of a close 1-0 win in the opening game of the season against West Virginia Wesleyan.

"It was an awesome feeling," said Huber on the goal. "It was a close game the whole entire time. We were both pretty evenly matched. I was outside the 18 and hit a shot into the top 90 left corner. It went in over the goalie's head and it was just so awesome to start the season off that way and get that win."

Added Huber on her role, "I love being a leader. I love that the girls come up to me and want to learn from me and trust me. I just like knowing I can give them confidence to be successful like I have been so far."

After two straight trips to the PSAC tournament in her first two years on campus, the Huskies have started the season with a 2-5 conference mark. With most of the losses being by a slim margin, Huber believes her team will bounce back and finish strong.

"I want to make it to the PSAC championship and go as far as we can into NCAA's," Huber said. "In all of our losses, we've proven that we can compete with these teams. They've beaten us in the last couple minutes in some of the games. We have a new coach this year, but we're feeling better and better each game."

Huber loved the aspect of Bloomsburg being close to home, and was close with her future teammates, playing club ball with some of them. That is what drew her to sign at Bloom over the next choice, LaSalle.

The exercise science major is also benefitting greatly from her previous success as a Parkland Trojan.

"At Parkland, working hard there has just carried over to here," said Huber. "Going so far at Parkland gave me the confidence knowing I can play in college, and succeed at the highest level."

Huber joins fellow Parkland alums Katy Fexa and Chrissy Hollan on the roster. She added that it brings back some great memories being Trojans.

The Huskies have seven conference games remaining in the season in hopes to return to the PSAC tournament playoffs.
