Hermany reports on Night in the Country success
In her Aug. 29 report on Night in the Country to the Northwestern Recreation Commission board, Kathy Hermany said vendor payments are coming in and there are still some outstanding bills.
"I want to thank the road crews for their efforts," Hermany said.
Northwestern Recreation Commission President Don Link said the annual Night in the Country celebration could not happen without the township help.
He also thanked Hermany for all she has done. Link said Celebration Fireworks has new equipment and that contributed to the high quality of the fireworks show.
"As people all know what they are doing, it has become a less stressful project," Link said.
Hermany said there was a car at the cruise that came all the way from Maryland.
Recreation commission member LeRoy Sorensen said Hermany has organization books, so if it becomes necessary in the future, someone else could take over.
A thank-you letter was received from Miller-Keystone Blood Center.
The center received 11 donations and anticipates taking part in "Night" next year.
One comment was received from a first-time Night attendee.
He said the fireworks were exceptional but wanted them to start earlier.
Vendors, however, want the extra hour to sell items or run activities, so the time will not be moved up.
In other matters, Jim Hughes reported all the new bleachers were put together and placed on the fields.
He said they are fairly easy to move if someone has special requests.
Sorensen will order signs from Mertz Signs showing the bleachers were purchased with money from Nestlé Waters North America.
The contractor began work on one of the dugouts, but the work did not match the plan.
There are two options to bring it up to the requirements.
One is for the piers to be poured and backfilled in place with the fill compacted in 8-inch increments.
The second would be to refill the area and drill 18-inch holes.
Compacting would be under the oversight of Earth Engineering.
