Looking for a way to have a presence in the community and serve in a way relevant to people's lives, Emmaus Moravian Church held a back-to-school event for area families recently.
Director of Church Growth and Development Linda Wisser spearheaded the event to offer backpacks, school supplies and clothing to families in need to help take the anxiety away from parents who might not be able to afford those items for their children.
Wisser said it is very difficult for children to attend school who do not have the proper clothing or required school supplies.
"We asked the congregation and Seven Generation Charter School families for donations and received lost and found items from schools in the district," Wisser said.
She said this was a community involvement project.
A week prior to the sale, a group of volunteers began to sort the school supplies and donated clothing by categories and size.
Each family received whatever clothing they needed for free and cloth bags with school supplies such as rulers, pencil boxes, markers, binders, glue sticks, crayons, pencils, erasers, folders and notebook paper for their children to begin school.
