Liberty Bell Church and Museum, 622 W. Hamilton St., Allentown, is having a special exhibit celebrating the Liberty Bell Museum's 50th anniversary until Oct. 31.
Visitors can learn about the purpose of bells in Colonial life, why the bell was cast for the State House building, as well as the evolution of what was simply a town bell into what became a symbol of freedom recognized around the world.
The exhibit also answers the question: Why is there a museum dedicated to the Liberty Bell in Allentown?
Learn the story of the vision of the founders of the "Shrine" and more.
Long before it became known as the Liberty Bell, the bell was cast to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Charter of Privileges of William Penn.
The charter is one of the documents that formed the basis for this nation's Bill of Rights.
By special arrangement with the American Philosophical Society, an exact replica of the original document will be on display at the museum.
The museum is free to the public. Donations are welcomed.
Parking for this event is behind and next to the church building, as well as on the street.
