The Lower Macungie board of commissioners voted Oct. 15 to extend a property tax protection program for preserved farmland, renewing a millage freeze for an additional 10 years.
Commissioners approved Ordinance 2026-07, which continues the tax freeze on land enrolled in farmland preservation programs. The freeze applies only to preserved acreage and does not include homes, barns or other structures on the properties.
The action extends a program intended to support farmland preservation by helping landowners manage property tax costs after permanently preserving agricultural land.
In other business, commissioners approved an indemnification agreement related to a proposed public sewer connection for an apartment complex at 5893 Lower Macungie Road. The project requires a Highway Occupancy Permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation before work can proceed.
Commissioners additionally approved an amendment to a drainage and access agreement for the North Krocks Road mixed-use development. Commissioner President Ron Beitler opposed the amendment, citing ongoing concerns about traffic in the area, though officials noted the amendment itself does not directly address traffic issues.
