Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan has announced a man charged in a Whitehall Township homicide will face trial in Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas.
Daniel Latorre Jr., 21, of Whitehall, is charged with felony counts of criminal homicide and aggravated assault, attempts or causes serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon.
Latorre’s preliminary hearing was held Oct. 20 before Magisterial District Judge Kyle B. Miller. Both of the felony charges were held for court, but Miller dismissed a misdemeanor charge of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 15, Whitehall Township Police Department was called to a stabbing at a home in the 700 block of Second Street. The investigation revealed Latorre Jr. stabbed his father, identified as 40-year-old Daniel S. Latorre Sr.
First responders at the scene attempted life-saving measures, but the victim later died from his injuries.
Latorre Sr. died from sharp force injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide by Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio.
A second victim was also injured with a laceration to her hand during what appears to be a domestic dispute between the three family members who lived at the home. The investigation revealed it started with a verbal dispute between the female victim and Latorre Sr. that was recorded on a cellphone.
During that verbal argument, the defendant was armed with a pocket knife that he used to stab his father.
This case is being investigated by Whitehall Township Police Detective Alexander Reinik and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Homicide Task Force Detective Moses Miller and will be prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Ashley N. Troxell and Holihan.
