Pickleball fundraiser event to support brain tumor research

The Jess Fin Foundation is hosting a Paddle for a Purpose event, planned for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 8 at Pickleball Kingdom, 2180 MacArthur Road, Whitehall.

Take part in a competitive pickleball tournament or sign up for four hours of open play. Players and spectators are welcome.

There will be Jess Fin Foundation apparel, a basket raffle, food and drink, music by Emmitt and the Gooze and additional games such as ping pong, cornhole and a practice pickleball wall. The event is BYOB.

“Every serve, rally and donation helps fund brain tumor research and supports individuals and families in the Lehigh Valley impacted by a brain cancer diagnosis,” according to the event flier.

Sign-ups are open at forms.gle/gdJMWFUapj9KR3MQ7. The organization is also accepting basket donations for the basket raffle.

The Jess Fin Foundation is a 501(c)3 founded in the Lehigh Valley in memory of Jess Finlayson, a 28-year-old Northampton Area School District teacher and volleyball coach who died in 2021 from brain cancer. Its mission is to raise money for brain tumor research and provide monetary grants to local individuals who have been diagnosed with brain cancer.

To date, it has donated more than $110,000 to brain tumor research and provided $17,000 in Jess Fin grants to local individuals diagnosed with brain cancer.
