Tigers win three CL matches
The volleyball court at Northwestern Lehigh was put to good use over the past week.
The Tigers had four games, the first two of which were at home. The home games turned out to be wins as did the first road game. A nonleague battle with Nazareth was the only loss in the four-game stretch.
Pen Argyl and Jim Thorpe came to Northwestern, and both left with losses.
The Green Knights were shut out 3-0 while the Olympians managed to take a game in a 3-1 loss. Against Pen Argyl, Northwestern won 25-16, 25-15, and 25-16.
Against Jim Thorpe, the story of the night was libero Lexi George. After reaching the 1,000-digs milestone earlier in the season, George continued to build on the number, and she reached and surpassed the all-time school mark when she recorded her 1,130th dig against the Olympians.
From there, the Tigers went to Catasauqua and took down the Rough Riders 3-0.
Early in the season, Northwestern ventured into the East Penn Conference to play Freedom and fell to the Patriots 3-0. The Tigers took on another good EPC team in Nazareth this past week and suffered a 3-1 loss.
The schedule has a key game this week with a rematch against Notre Dame of Green Pond. The Crusaders took down Northwestern 3-1 at Notre Dame earlier in the season and the Tigers get them on their home court this time. Northwestern is chasing the Crusaders in the district standings and is just ahead of the Tigers in the Colonial League standings.
After that come games against Salisbury and Lehighton. The showdown with the Indians wraps up the home schedule of the regular season.
Northwestern entered this week in second place in the league standings and fourth in the District 11 4A classification.
