Hornets will battle Parkland for top seed

The Emmaus High School field hockey team enters this week one win away from securing an unbeaten regular season.

The Hornets improved to 17-0 overall and 12-0 in East Penn Conference play with wins last week.

Emmaus beat Penn Manor 3-1 Saturday in a nonleague game against a program the Hornets often face in the state playoff tournament.

After falling behind 1-0 in the second quarter, the Hornets tied the score on a goal from Riley Povilaitis that was assisted by Gracie Huffer and Ellie Fields.

Lovey Pilarski scored the game-winner on an assist from Marissa Gigliotti in the third quarter and Huffer capped the scoring with a fourth-quarter goal.

Emmaus beat Whitehall 13-0 last Thursday.

Ella Horner had a hat trick against the Zephyrs, while Huffer, Povilaitis, Elsey Truckenmiller, Avery Rudoi, Fields, Pilarsky, Emeryson Lausch, Peyton Webb, Sadie Nawarysnki, Kate Rainford and Elena Rosati also scored goals in the win.

Lenig assisted on four goals in the win, while Rosati, Horner and Webb had two assists each. Huffer, Povilaitis, Bridget Aquino and Truckenmiller had one assist each.

The Hornets enter this week with just Tuesday’s game against Parkland remaining on the regular season schedule. The Trojans (14-2-1 overall; 12-0 EPC) also enter the contest with an unbeaten league record.

The winner will earn the league’s regular season title and the top seed for the EPC playoffs, which begin Saturday.
