Hornet boys soccer earns EPC top seed

The Emmaus High School boys soccer team won a pair of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games last week and in doing so the Hornets secured the No. 1 seed in the conference playoff tournament, which begins next week.

The Hornets remained unbeaten on the year and have a tie as the only slight blemish on their record. They have also only allowed two goals all season. They defeated Nazareth 4-0 last Wednesday and downed Allen Friday afternoon, 2-0.

In the win over the Blue Eagles, Emmaus scored three goals in the first half and added the fourth in the second half. Maseyn Muthard tallied all three goals for the hat trick in the opening half, with two of the goals coming on assists from Lorenzo LoPiccolo. Xavier Kieber-Emmons netted the fourth goal on a penalty kick in the second half.

Chase Evans finished with two saves in goal.

The Hornets outshot Nazareth 11-2 overall and 6-2 on goal. The visitors held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

In the victory against the Canaries, Emmaus recorded a goal in each half, with Anthony Suida netting both, the first half on an assist by Jeremy Sharpless and the second half’s by LoPiccolo. They had 10 shots, compared to just one by Allen. Evans made one save. The Hornets also finished with a 7-0 advantage in corners.

Emmaus, which improved to 15-0-1 overall and 14-0-1 in the conference, has one more regular season game against rival Parkland Wednesday night on the road before heading into the postseason. The league playoffs are set to begin Tuesday, Oct. 20.
