Emmaus football falls to Nazareth

The Emmaus High School football team had its two-game win streak snapped Friday night in a 32-7 loss to Nazareth last in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup at Andrew Leh Stadium.

The Hornets fell behind 14-0 in the second quarter before getting on the scoreboard with a touchdown, but those seven points were all they could muster the rest of the way. Before last Friday, Emmaus had won two games in a row, shutting out Scranton 42-0 in week three, and then winning its first EPC game, a 21-7 victory against Pocono Mountain East.

The Blue Eagles (4-1 overall, 2-0) opened the scoring with a one-yard run by Will Bacolo in the first quarter.

In the second period, Bacolo found pay dirt once again, this time a 30-yard scamper to put the hosts up 14-0.

Anthony Attar gave the Hornets their first points of the contest on a five-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. George Marmaros kicked the extra point and the game went to halftime at 14-7.

After intermission, Nazareth got back on the scoreboard with a two-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Madson to Matt Leluga.

In the fourth quarter, Owen Hall connected on a 24-yard field goal before Madson capped the game’s scoring with a 21-yard run.

Jay Santos finished with 73 yards on eight carries and Attar recorded 29 yards on the ground with the TD. Kellen Hafner completed five passes for 68 yards. Legend Vasquez caught one of those passes for 46 yards. Mason Lenig paced the defense with 11 total tackles. Attar finished with six tackles and one tackle for loss. Angel Cardona recorded one tackle for loss and one sack.

Emmaus, which fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, will play at Central Catholic on Thursday at J Birney Crum Stadium. The Vikings are 3-2 and 2-0 in the EPC, having just taken down Easton 14-13 last Friday. Their other conference victory was against East Stroudsburg South. CCHS lost to Nazareth 42-15 in week three.
