Zephs defeat Allen
The Whitehall Zephyrs overpowered William Allen in the second half to beat the Canaries, 45-20, on Oct. 15 at Whitehall.
“Diesel (Jeziah Gregory) is a hard runner, and he just put his foot on the ground and got vertical which is one of his strengths, but he can also make a move then,” said Whitehall quarterback Tanner Dogmanits. “Pass game, we had plays here and there.”
The Zephyrs led, 17-6, at halftime but had a lot to discuss at the break.
“The coaches came in, and we knew that we weren’t playing our best football, so we had to come together like we had been doing week by week,” Dogmanits said.
Gregory’s 37-yard run in the third quarter ended with a fumble at the 1-yard line, picked up by teammate Envy Rivera for a touchdown.
Nick Milley’s extra point made the score, 24-6.
Allen answered with Julian Pagan’s 22-yard passing touchdown to Jaylen Walker, but the Canaries failed on the 2-point conversion on a stop by Iskander Blanco.
Gregory made up for his earlier drop with a 2-yard touchdown to give the Zephyrs a 31-12 lead.
Pagan ran for a touchdown to open the fourth quarter after a Canary interception and a facemask penalty that went against Whitehall, and Yitizian Sanchez scored the 2- point conversion.
Gregory and Clifford Murray had consecutive rushing touchdowns to end the game.
Whitehall’s CJ Lowe made a tremendous catch on a 30-yard pass from Dogmanits for the Zephyrs’ second touchdown of the night.
“They trust me to make plays, so I gotta come down with it every time,” Lowe said. “Over the shoulder, we practice that every day. I was very close to the sideline, but they count on me to make that catch. Once it touches my hands, it’s coming in. Second touchdown of the game felt great.”
