Boys win EPC opener vs. WHS

For the Northampton boys’ soccer team, their banner season rolls on.

The Konkrete Kids (17-1-1) ended their regular season with a 12-game unbeaten streak (12-1) with 12 wins and a 1-1 tie with Freedom. After a 4-0 start, the Kids suffered their lone blemish, a 2-0 loss to Emmaus.

Incredibly, the Kids have scored 81 goals and allowed just nine in 18 games, and they also have recorded 13 shutouts. They ended the regular season with seven consecutive shutouts.

Northampton began the opening round of the East Penn Conference (EPC) playoff Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Whitehall. Jariel Medina scored two goals, and Cam Armour tallied one. Ryan Nahf recorded six saves.

Jacob Fallenstein leads the team with 29 goals, and Medina has 16, Nahf has 94 saves.

The Kids will meet Parkland Thursday night at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown in an EPC semifinal. Parkland (15-3-1) shut out Liberty, 1-0, in another quarterfinal-round game, and the Trojans are undefeated in their last six games (5-0-1).

Northampton shut out Pleasant Valley, 3-0, in the EPC opening quarterfinal round last year before they suffered a 1-0 loss to Emmaus in the semifinal round. In the district tournament, the Kids lost to Liberty, 1-0, in the quarterfinal round. Northampton finished the season with an overall 15-4-2 record.

Bastidas also is proud of his following players who recently received honors: Fallenstein, all-state and first-team all EPC; Nahf, first team all-EPC; Blake Turner, first-team all-EPC; Medina, second-team all-EPC; Joseph Gonzales, second-team all-EPC; and Blake Laveneburg, third team all-EPC.

Bastidas believes his club has all the pieces that can take them deep into the postseason.

“We have been playing well posting shutouts and scoring goals. Ryan has been amazing and continues to be impressive in goal. He makes saves that nobody else can make. Jacob Fallenstein has continued to be a reliable goal scorer and Jaziel Medina has been amazing starting our attack.

“The entire team has played tough with amazing competitiveness. When you combine their determination and skill, we are tough to stop.”
