LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Public Library of Catasauqua: Catasauqua library closing early Oct. 21 for Halloween parade

Spooky season is here, and so is lovely autumn! Both can be celebrated by coming down to the library in October.

Be advised the library will close early, 5 p.m., Oct. 21 for the Catasauqua/North Catasauqua Halloween parade!

The library will hold another history program Nov. 4. This one will be centered on Henry Knox, George Washington’s close advisor and our nation’s first secretary of war. Borough Manager Glenn Eckhart will bring Henry to life for us.

As always, the program is 7 p.m. in our auditorium, and ticket sales benefit the library.

We’d also like to thank the great crowd who came out to meet George Taylor last month and for their generous donations.

This month, our adult book club is reading Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye” in honor of Banned Books Week, which was Oct. 4-10. The group will meet 3 p.m. Nov. 4.

If you’d like to sit in on the discussion or if you’d like us to help you get a copy of the short novel, call or stop by the library.

Every Thursday, the library holds its reading and crafting event, for kids and their caregivers, 4 p.m. in our auditorium. Come on out for plenty of autumnal activities each week.

***

Our gaming club still runs Saturdays, when young kids and teens are offered internet, computers and technical help if they’d like to play Minecraft or Roblox together or solo.

Also, our classic board games remain available to challenge a friend or a staff member on those slow autumn days after school.

***

As always, our lovely fiber arts group The Stitches continues to meet 5:30 p.m. every Monday for fun, community and advice. If you’d like to take up a new hobby or make time to work on your yarn-based projects, this is the group for you!

Thanks to our amazing resource-sharing agreement we have with many of the libraries of Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties, we can get virtually any title of book or DVD you could desire to put you in the proper October mood. We also have a display of spooky fall reads, and we’d love to hear your recommendations for more.
