League of Women Voters Executive Director visits Kalmbach Park
The executive director of the League of Women Voters, Amy Widestrom, visited Kalmbach Memorial Park in Macungie on Oct. 2 to accept a donation from the Kalmbach Park Foundation that will help fund voter education, election assistance programs, poll worker support and volunteer recruitment efforts.
The donation will be used to support the League’s efforts to increase voter participation and provide accurate election information to the public.
Those efforts include distributing educational materials, assisting voters and recruiting volunteers to support election-related activities.
The mission of Kalmbach Memorial Park is to fulfill the vision outlined in the will and trust of Frederick Kalmbach. Those goals include promoting physical, cultural and educational advancement; emphasizing the rights and privileges guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution; encouraging voter participation to ensure broad civic engagement; promoting healthy lifestyles, exercise and intellectual growth; and fostering an appreciation for wildlife, botany and the natural world.
Widestrom holds a doctorate in political science and is a graduate of Syracuse University. Her education and professional experience have helped her become an effective communicator, project manager and fundraiser.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to encouraging informed and active participation in government. One of its key resources is Vote411.org, a website that allows users to check voter registration status, learn about candidates and election issues and access election information. The organization also operates a toll-free election information hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE, where voters can receive assistance and answers to election-related questions. League services are available in five languages, helping make voting information accessible to a broader audience.
In addition, the organization works to support voters at polling places. For example, representatives may assist when long lines develop near poll closing times, helping ensure eligible voters have an opportunity to cast their ballots. Attorneys also work with the organization to provide legal assistance related to voting concerns and election issues.
League representatives said all ballots are counted and that election officials make every effort to resolve incomplete or questionable entries in accordance with election laws and procedures, ensuring votes are accurately recorded whenever possible.
The donation presentation highlighted the shared commitment of the Kalmbach Park Foundation and the League of Women Voters to civic engagement, public education and encouraging participation in the democratic process.
