E. Allen board hears mixed-use request

At the beginning of the Oct. 8 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors monthly meeting, the supervisors held a public hearing about conditional use request 26-002 regarding 7111 Beth-Bath Pike in East Allen Township. The request is proposing a mixed use of townhouses and commercial development on the property.

The request consists of two medical office buildings, one restaurant and two commercial/retail buildings. The rear portion of the site will consist of 10 townhome buildings consisting of six units each, for a total of 60 units.

The property is located in PC-2, limited planned commercial district, and this is a conditional use within the district. Chapter 250 of the East Allen Township code of ordinances indicates the proposed mixed use is permitted by conditional use when authorized by the board of supervisors.

The hearing ended with the supervisors planning to consider the request and vote on the matter at the Nov. 12 meeting.

The supervisors voted to approve the minutes of the Sept. 10 meeting and to approve general fund checks 5060-5131, totaling $406,152.45.

Under supervisor business, supervisors voted to approve the replacement of a fence located at the public works facility at 7437 Driftwood Road, at a cost of $65,643. The cost is to replace the fence and install a main gate, cantilever gates and a motorized opener.

Supervisors approved the appointment of Steve R. Hawk as an additional sewage enforcement officer, as recommended by Hanover Engineering. The township typically has more than one sewage enforcement officer to help the efficiency of running the township’s on-lot sewage disposal program.

A request was approved for a security placed for the Snowdrift Road self-storage project in the amount of $143,842, holding $25,383.99 of the existing letter of credit for an additional 18 months to cover the maintenance period requirement and to ensure sidewalk issues are addressed to the satisfaction of the township.

Supervisors voted to reject a sole bid and to re-advertise for bids for the replacement of the Bicentennial Park pavilion C and other roof replacements. There was only a single bidder for the project. The supervisors are planning a longer bid time to garner a number of bids so they can compare competitive bids.

The supervisors held a brief discussion on various stand-alone ordinances and decided to table the discussion until the Oct. 22 meeting in order to have a more in-depth discussion of the topic.

A recommendation to purchase emergency equipment for the East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department was approved. The cost of the equipment is $21,870.98. It is additional equipment to complete and up-fit for the new Pierce Enforcer pumper tanker.

In the Northampton Regional EMS report, it was noted East Allen Township had 40 ambulance calls during September.

The next East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd., Northampton.
