JuxtaHub, the Lehigh Valley’s creative arts and innovation center, will host the first JuxtaFaire, an outdoor artisan market and community celebration noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 at its converted warehouse campus at 375 South 10th St. in Emmaus. The event is free and open to the public.
Twenty artisans and makers will fill the lot and lawn north of the JuxtaHub building with handmade goods: handblown glass, linocut prints, watercolor and acrylic paintings, wood and fiber work, jewelry, pottery, candles, leather goods, 3D-printed pieces, and more. Vendors are traveling from across the Lehigh Valley and beyond, and several are JuxtaHub resident artists who will be selling their work steps from the studios where they made it.
Confirmed vendors include Art by Billy Thompson, Birch Please, Crow Canyon Customs, Csordas Collective, FountainWood Studio, Hands of Heat Glassworks, It Felt Rite, Kathryn Armstrong Artist, Little Mites by Laurie, Lu-who Creations, McKinney Media, MVArts, Olszewski Pottery, Orange Kitty Creations, Paintings by Carmelina, Pudding Hill, Surly Hedgehog Photography & Design, The Cryptid Sisters, Tory Schultz, and Whisker and Yarn.
Food and drink will be on site throughout the afternoon, including Yergey Brewing of Emmaus, Sugar Cycle, Boodelicious Cakes, and Cactus Blue. Henna Chakra will offer henna, Milan Stevens will offer face painting, and there will be a free pumpkin painting station for children while supplies last.
Jill Italiano, creator of Hen the Tiny Docent, a tiny felt frog who explores and promotes the Lehigh Valley arts community, will be on hand with Hen at JuxtaFaire, and will be hosting free pin-making and artist card-making activities at her table. Visitors can also get JuxtaFaire passports at the Tiny Docent table encouraging them to explore vendor booths, resident artist studios, the Convergent Makerspace, and activities throughout the event while collecting ‘visa’ stickers along the way. Visitors who complete their passports will receive a special sticker and be entered into a drawing for an art supply gift basket.
“Hen’s whole mission is to get people curious about art and the people who make it, so JuxtaFaire felt like exactly where a tiny docent should be,” said Italiano. “I hope people come ready to explore, make something, meet their creative neighbors, and discover just how much creativity is happening right here in the Lehigh Valley.”
TWK Electro Sound will DJ throughout the afternoon, with QR codes posted around the market so visitors can pull out a phone and put in a song request.
Inside the building, Makerspace Director Lauren Huggler will lead tours of JuxtaHub’s Convergent Makerspace for anyone who wants to see the equipment and the space behind the organization’s classes and member projects. Several JuxtaHub resident artists will also be working in their studios and open to visitors, including Sue Skoras, Kat Collins, Hisao Taya, Deb Slahta, Tracy Maley, and Drew Tilton in the Lehigh Art Alliance studio.
Parking is available on site. The event is held rain or shine.
