Liberty field hockey aims to clinch berth
Liberty’s hot streak came to an end last week, but the Hurricanes recent four game win streak pushed them ahead in their District 11 playoff aspirations.
The Canes’ fell short in a 4-2 loss to Nazareth last week, but rattled off four straight wins over Pocono Mountain East, Pleasant Valley, Palmerton and Whitehall prior to get themselves above the .500 mark.
The Hurricanes sit at 8-7 heading into the week with three games left on the season, including two this week against Northampton (8-5-1) and Easton (8-6).
They close out the regular season on Oct. 13 against Freedom (4-10).
Their path to clinching a district berth is simple, as they need to win one of their last three matchups to solidify a postseason berth.
Head coach Jill Dorn would like to get a district berth clinched sooner than later, but understands it’s all part of the process.
“Our second game against Freedom is always a tumultuous game,” said Dorn. “Both teams are at the peak of their season, playing with a ton of emotion, and for a game that holds traditional value as well.
“It would be big to get it out of the way early but we are no stranger to qualifying this way. The task is to continue to work and progress forward, we are at a good point in the season to make the claim that this is happening for us.”
Freedom is out of the running for a postseason berth, but have three matches this week against Pocono Mountain East, Pleasant Valley and Pen Argyl.
Bethlehem Catholic is 0-11 on the season, but still have seven games left on the schedule, including four this week against Emmaus, Lehighton, Parkland and Northern Lehigh.
