Girls look to wrap up District 11 berth

The Whitehall girls soccer team is heading down the final stretch of the season.

The girls sit at 6-3-2 in the EPC as of Monday, good enough for seventh place and a berth in the EPC playoffs.

Head coach Chris Bleam has been happy with what he’s seen up to this point in the season.

“The team is a work in progress and took some significant steps forward last week playing very well against an extremely strong and undefeated Nazareth team,” Bleam said. “They followed up with a dominant performance against a much-improved Wilson side on Saturday.”

Bleam said some younger players have really stepped up, and as a result have earned key roles. That list includes: freshmen Maddy Shaulis, Clair Schrampf, Divinity Riveral and Makayla Vasquez.

“Young players continue to develop and several have now earned significant roles,” Bleam said. “The senior core continues to lead this group, who is playing much better than early in the season.”

As of Monday, the girls were a win away from a District 11 berth. They are sitting behind Nazareth, Emmaus, Parkland, Easton and Northampton, which have all clinched spots. The team has winnable games against Pocono East and Pocono West, but also has to face Central, which is 11-3 and second in 2A, home against Emmaus and at Northampton to close the season.

“While some tough opponents remain, the team is one win away from securing a District 11 playoff berth and has a legitimate chance to qualify for the EPC playoffs as well,” Bleam said. “I am encouraged with the progress of the group and look forward to continuing to grow this team in the final third of our season.”
