City teams all win on the road

It was blowout week for Bethlehem’s football teams, as all three schools hit the road to the Poconos last week and came away with decisive victories.

Bethlehem Catholic had little trouble moving to 5-1 on the season with a 49-14 win over East Stroudsburg South.

Quarterback Axel Burkart threw four touchdowns and Justin Martinez punches in two rushing scores to help propel the Hawks to a mercy rule victory.

The Hawks are set for a pivotal city clash against Freedom this Friday night after the Pates shutout East Stroudsburg North 49-0 last week to move to 4-2.

Lashawn Johnson scored three TD’s on the night to give him 11 rushing scores on the season and Michael Stofanak threw two TD passes to help secure the mercy rule win.

Liberty got a much needed 27-0 win at Pocono Mountain West to register their second win of the year.

Carmelo Griffin had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the game, as the Hurricanes led 14-0 at halftime

after Alsaiah Gross hit Zyaire Davis for a 15-yard score.

That scoreline remained until the fourth quarter Dominic Fontanez found Davis for his second touchdown of the night, this time for 35-yards to make it 20-0.

Davis capped off a memorable night with a 97-yard interception return late in the fourth to ice the contest.

The Hurricanes (2-4) now have the tough task of playing at Nazareth (5-1) on Friday night.
