Bath Borough held its fifth annual Old Home Weekend Sept. 17-20 at Ciff Cowling Field, part of 1737 Park, at 301 Allen St. Each of the four days had its own theme.

However, the celebratory weekend was truncated as leaders postponed festivities planned for Sept. 20 to Sept. 27 due to expected inclement weather.

The event kicked off Sept. 17 with Open House Night. Some local businesses throughout the borough stayed open later and offered discounts and specials. The Bath Water Authority and Bath Fire Department also held tours 6-8 p.m.

Entertainment Night was Sept. 18 at Ciff Cowling Field. Magician Tom Yurasits performed 6 p.m. at the Friendship Stage. His magic show was followed by an outdoor movie screening of “National Treasure 2,” which began 8 p.m.

Activity Day was Sept. 19 and featured the annual softball tournament beginning 10 a.m. and the community picnic. Tinsel hair was offered by Lisa Bachman, of Bath, for attendees to “add some sparkle to your hair” while supporting the borough fire department.

A talented softball team, sponsored by Papa Sarge’s Pierogies at 120 S. Walnut St., was a standout team. Papa Sarge’s Pierogies defeated the All Things Home softball team in the tournament’s championship game in a slugfest 22-10. Papa Sarge’s’ team was bestowed an award by Bath Borough Mayor Fiorella Reginelli Mirabito and Bath Borough Councilman Darrin Heckman.

Chasing Daylight took the stage 6-9 p.m. The local band has a blend of soulpop and R&B feel-good music. The band has played at Musikfest, SteelStacks and the Sun Inn courtyard in historic Bethlehem.

Organization Day was postponed until Sept. 27 due to the rain.

Taking part in the festivities was Boy Scout Troop 33, which sold peach cobbler, with or without vanilla ice cream.

Also on hand was a group of volunteers from the Green Mount Cemetery, 402 E. Northampton St. Green Mount held a basket social, led by Amy Hess, to raise funds for the cemetery. Other basket social volunteers from Bath included Scott Cavalo, Marcia Hahn, Heckman, Vicki Eldridge, Janice Mac and Brandy Erkinger.

Green Mount Cemetery was started by John Snyder in 1859 and was incorporated in 1872. The cemetery is a nonprofit run by volunteers. The group is always seeking help with care, fundraising and donations for the cemetery. Visit their Facebook page for more information.

The genesis of Old Home Week, now transformed into Old Home Weekend, occurred when Bath Borough Councilman Frank Hesch was reviewing old Bath Borough documents in 2022 and made a discovery. About a hundred or so years ago, the borough leaders held Old Home Week.

The plan back then was to invite former Bath residents to return to the borough to celebrate living in Bath. The initial Bath Old Home Week was reportedly held in 1912.

Bath Borough’s energetic current and active former elected leaders and a vibrant, talented group of volunteers work to put on a successful Old Home Weekend. This contributes to the quality of life in their community.

Old Home Weekend, featuring food, music and fun activities, adds to that history started in 1912. Combined with the goodwill and the friendship on display over the weekend, it actively demonstrates Bath Borough’s motto, “History, Nestled with Friendship.”
