Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group will hold its monthly meeting 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 26.

The meeting is offered in a hybrid format: in-person at the Palmer branch of Easton Area Public Library, 1 Weller Place, Easton, and online via Zoom.

Membership business will be conducted 10-11 a.m.

From 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., journalist Molly Bilinski will present “Behind the Byline: The Trade and Craft of Nonfiction,” sharing her experience writing for newspapers in eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey, earning her MFA in creative writing and the importance of good literary citizenship for a writing career.

From 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., attendees are welcome to participate in an open mic.

Bring a page or two of a work in progress to share with fellow writers over the day’s lunch break; this will not be available over Zoom.

Bilinski will be presenting “That’s a Great Question! How to Interview Like a Journalist” 1:30-3 p.m.

Asking the right questions is foundational for a journalist, but creative writers of all genres can benefit from honing their interviewing skills to strengthen their stories.

This workshop explores how to ask thoughtful questions, understand context and writing strategies to hook readers when it’s time to start drafting.

During this 90-minute workshop, participants will learn interviewing and relationship-building skills and how to apply journalism techniques to creative writing, as well as practice asking questions and drafting attention-grabbing first lines.

Registration is required for Bilinski’s afternoon program.

Cost is free for members. There is cost for non-members payable via AccuPay.

Any person under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for any GLVWG event.
