At their Sept. 3 meeting, Lower Macungie Township commissioners approved Resolution 2026-34, authorizing a utility easement containment agreement for the Mertztown development.

Township officials said the original plan included individual drainage easements, but the agreement eliminates the need for separate easements.

Commissioners also directed the township solicitor to prepare an ordinance extending the township’s property tax millage freeze for preserved properties by an additional 10 years. The extension would keep the current township tax rate in place for those properties during that period.

Resolution 2026-33 was approved, allowing the use of facsimile signatures and signature stamps for township disbursements. Officials said the township is also exploring the future use of digital signatures.

Commissioners approved Resolution 2026-32, appointing Maillie LLP as the township’s independent auditor for the 2026 financial audit.

The board also filled a vacancy on the planning commission. Six applicants were considered for the position. Board President Ron Beitler appointed Robert Manns to serve a term that expires Jan. 1, 2029.

Township Manager Bruce Beitel reported that the township’s redesigned website has launched and is now operational.

Officials also introduced the township’s new engineer, Michele Fountain.

Construction continues on the Wildlands Bridge on Orchid Place, with completion anticipated in approximately six weeks.
