The Emmaus High School golf team opened the season nearly two week ago and is 4-2 through six matches.

The Hornets shot 413 in their season opener on Aug. 13 at Skytop Golf Course to sweep Pocono Mountain East (420), Northampton (425) and Pleasant Valley (483).

Evan Walters led the Hornets and earned medalist honors with a 3-over par 75. Anderson Francis (77), Greyson Schmidt (83), Jake Socci (87) and Ella Bloszinsky (91) made up the rest of the team score.

Pocono Mountain East had five players shoot 87 or less, led by Chase Murphy’s 78. Drew Patascher led Pleasant Valley with a 79, while Northampton’s Andrew Elbert shot a team-low 81.

Walters was again the low shooter in the Hornets’ second match. The senior shot 4-under par 67 at Southmoore Golf Course while his team went 2-2 at the match.

Emmaus shot 395 as a team to beat Stroudsburg while falling to Nazareth (380) and Liberty (389).

Francis (89), Socci (83), Silas Wellhoener (83), and Schmidt (88) made up the rest of the Hornets’ team score.

Nazareth had four players break 80 in the match and all five shot 81 or better, led by Holden Sparks’ 72.

Liberty had three players in the 70s, led by 75s from Jake Wachinski and Andrew Effie.

The Mountaineers’ Phillip Yetter (79) was the only player on his team to break 80.

The early East Penn Conference standings are bunched at the top after Parkland handed both Nazareth and Liberty early-season losses, but lost to Pocono Mountain East for the only blemish on the Trojans’ schedule as they sit atop the league standings.

PM East headed into this week at 5-1, with its only loss of the season coming against Emmaus. Liberty and Nazareth are 7-2 heading into this week’s matches.
