The Salisbury High School boys golf team will be competing in 2026 under a new head coach in Chris Butynski. The Salisbury English teacher takes over the program after it went 4-8 overall a season ago.

The Falcons graduated a talented senior last year in Aiden Smarch, who was a Colonial League qualifier, but there is a good amount of talent and experience at the first-year head coach’s disposal.

“As this is my first year as coach, my hope is to focus on basics, etiquette and smart play over flashy play,” said Butynskyi. “I want to use golf as a canvas and platform to teach aspects of personal integrity and character. Even if we do not accumulate PIAA wins, players will win in development and growth. This will translate into multiple aspects of their lives.”

Some of the top returning golfers this season include senior Jackson Skeans and sophomore Chase Yakaitis, along with senior Markus Jones. A key newcomer to the lineup will be Dominic Nimeh.

Yakaitis will play the top spot in the line up after he tied for fourth at leagues last year and was eighth at districts in Class 2A. Skeans and Jones also played in the league championship tournament in 2025.

There are some strengths and areas of improvement that the Falcons will possess this season.

“Team mentality and camaraderie are two major strengths of this team,” Butynskyi said. “No one presents themselves as a lone golfer. Golf is a game of constant improvement.

“We will be underdogs for a number of matches, so we will need to work on depth and consistency in our scoring. My hope is to provide plenty of opportunities for players to improve. We will have to see how the season shakes out.”

Salisbury, which plays its home matches at Wedgewood, will opened its season Monday, Aug. 17 when it hosted Lehighton.
