The Parkland golf team leads the East Penn Conference standings and District 11 Class 3A rankings through the first half of the season.

The Trojans are 9-1 overall and 8-1 in league matches through last week. The only blemish came against nemesis Pocono Mountain East, which beat the Trojans last season and is off to a 5-1 start in EPC matches this season.

Easton, Liberty and Emmaus were all tied at 7-2 heading into this week, with Northampton at 6-4.

Parkland opened the season on Aug. 17 and shot 387 to beat Liberty (395), Bethlehem Catholic (426) and East Stroudsburg South (452).

Charlie Gold led Parkland with a 74, followed by teammates Carter Willis (76), Matthew Torres (76), Jake Posocco (78) and Jacob Rapp (83) rounding out the five-player team score.

Liberty’s Cameron Rodriguez and East Stroudsburg’s Luke Green each carded a 73 to shoot the low rounds of the match.

The Trojans hosted a match at Twin Lakes a day later and went 2-1, falling to Pocono Mountain East 376-381, while beating Easton (419) and East Stroudsburg North (654).

Torres earned medalist honors with a 1-under par 70 in the match, with Willis (77), Ryan Posocco (77), Gold (78) and Jake Posocco (79) making up the rest of Parkland’s team score.

The Cardinals had their top five shoot 79 or lower in the match, led by Emmett Galucci’s 73.

After a day off, the Trojans swept a quad-match on Thursday, Aug. 20. They edged Northampton 364-369 while also beating defending district champ Nazareth (381) and Central Catholic (386).

Ryan Posocco’s 2-under par 70 at Allentown Municipal led the Parkland effort and was good for medalist honors in the match. Torres (73), Jake Posocco (73), Tommy Schimmer (73) and Willis (75) also were part of the team score.

Torres fired a 3-under par 68 in a nonleague match against Southern Lehigh at Wedgewood last Friday, leading the team to a 375-378 win over the Spartans. Willis shot 74 in the match, while Schimmer carded a 77. Three other Trojans (Ryan Posocco, Jake Posocco and Chase Klever) shot 78 against Southern Lehigh.
