Calling all parade fans!

Upper Milford Township will mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a parade and a celebration in Lenape Park noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 5.

The parade will step off from the township building, 5671 Chestnut St. and continue to the park, Kings Highway South.

Parade participants are set to include Scouts, veterans, first responder vehicles and crews and the Brandywine Colonials Fife and Drum Corps.

At the park, visitors will listen to a recitation of the Declaration of Independence as well as music performances by Old Tyme Music and Kelly Planner and the Perks. Other highlights include a petting zoo, face painting, games, crafts and food trucks.

There is no rain date.

Also during the celebration, Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, will screen the docudrama “The Fries Rebellion” 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Admission is free.

The film tells the story of an insurrection in what was then known as Macungie Township. Local farmers and others joined together to protest a new federal tax. The rebellion is named after its leader, John Fries. Several of the film’s scenes feature original sites that still exist, including Hendrixson’s Furniture Store, formerly John Shymer’s Tavern in Shimersville.

History enthusiasts also may enjoy the upcoming programs hosted by the Upper Milford Historical Society and the Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society.

On Sept. 24, the Upper Milford Historical Society will welcome historian Mike Jesberger with his program titled “Footprints in the Snow.” Jesberger will talk about Gen. George Washington and his troops.

On Sept. 29, Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will welcome musician Scott Reagan of Nazareth, who will perform a program of traditional and original Pennsylvania Dutch folk music.

Both programs begin 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. and admission is free.

Lower Milford Township will welcome visitors to its 24th annual fall festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Lower Milford Township municipal building campus, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

The event will include photo and coloring contests, free tractor rides, an apple pie baking contest, artisan and craft vendors, opportunities to build scarecrows, music performances, food trucks and more.

Admission is free.

Should entertainment history be of interest, the Friends of Southern Lehigh Library will host Tom Repasch in a program on Broadway music of the 1960s and 1970s at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, 7 p.m. Sept. 16. There is a cost for tickets. Doors open 6:30 p.m.

The library has a wide range of programs available to Lower Milford Township residents including games and story times for young readers, game clubs, movie nights and workshops for children and teens and events for adults including trivia nights, book clubs, craft nights and Friends of Southern Lehigh Library programs.
