The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors approved a resolution related to the purchase of a new fire truck, while also addressing future improvements at Arrowhead Park during its recent meeting.

Township Manager Bud Carter informed the board that Upper Milford Western District Fire Company agreed to the language contained in Resolution No. 2026-031 regarding the purchase of the new fire truck.

During public comment, Emergency Services Committee member and resident Colt Hershinger questioned whether a future board of supervisors could reverse the resolution. Carter explained that a board can amend or rescind a township resolution.

“An agreement should be an agreement,” Hershinger said.

The discussion centered on how the truck will be paid for. Township officials prefer paying for the truck upfront, while the fire company would like the money to remain in an interest-bearing account over a 20-year period. Officials said the arrangement could generate approximately $42,000 in interest for the fire company.

Solicitor Marc Fisher said that if a future board rescinds the resolution, the township would lose its rights to the truck and forfeit the money invested in it.

Supervisor John Zgura noted that paying for the truck upfront would eliminate the opportunity to earn interest but would also remove concerns about future boards changing the agreement.

The board approved the resolution. A decision on whether to pay for the truck in full or allow the funds to remain invested will be made at a later date.

In other business, the board approved requests for fire police assistance at the Upper Milford Township 250th anniversary parade Sept. 5 and the Emmaus Halloween Parade on Oct. 17.

Board Chair Angela Ashbrook said the township’s emergency services call report is available on the township website.

During the Parks and Recreation report, Lauren Haponski said she appreciated the township’s quick response to graffiti discovered on the basketball court at Arrowhead Park. She also asked about an area of the park that has not been mowed.

Carter said township crews mow only land owned by the township.

Zgura suggested adding a pavilion at Arrowhead Park, and Ashbrook agreed the idea should be considered during the next budget discussion.

Zgura also said volunteers are needed to distribute wooden nickels and American flags during the township’s 250th anniversary parade. Interested individuals and organizations may contact the township for information.
