Northampton field hockey coach Carrie Saul doesn’t quite have a good feeling yet about the upcoming season.

The Konkrete Kids finished 16-5 last season, ending their season in the District 11 Class 3A with a 4-0 loss to eventual state champion Emmaus in a semifinal game. They previously edged Nazareth, 2-1, in a district quarterfinal game, avenging a 3-2 loss to the Blue Eagles in an East Penn Conference (EPC) quarterfinal.

Northampton lost nine seniors from last year’s squad, all who were instrumental over the past four years. Lauren Reznick led the team in goals last season with 25 and had two assists, and Reznick had 49 goals over four years.

From the early indications, it could be a transition year ahead,

“We lost nine seniors, but have eight or nine incoming ninth graders,” stated Saul. “It will definitely be a year where we need to see what will work.

Saul is looking to find her team identity this summer, having them play at Whitehall on Tuesday evenings and at Bethlehem Catholic Thursday nights. Northampton also hosted the seven-on-seven Kids Klassic, and they participated in the Nazareth Blastoff tournament.

The Kids do have a strong core returning in first-team EPC selection junior Madi Williamson and fellow junior Kaya Pietryka in the nets.

Saul likes what she has seen from sophomores Livia Churetta and Paige Hamilton, who are returning from starting as freshmen. She also will look to seniors Kacee Medei and goalie Kailyn Mollenkof, who are expected to lead with their experience.

“We see what happens,” said Saul. “We should have a better feeling once we begin practice in August.”

The Kids will open the season at Easton Aug. 31, where they rallied to win 3-2.
