Bethlehem Catholic’s girls tennis team kicked off its season with a 4-2 victory over Pocono Mountain West on Aug. 24 at Becahi.

The Golden Hawks swept all singles matches with Sasha Mathew winning at No. 1 over Eva Miecowski, 6-1, 6-1, Caroline Dunn defeating Rayvonna Byrne at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0, and Brooke Mayer defeating Alisha Lin at No. 3, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Becahi’s No. 2 doubles pair of Ruby Robinson and Madelyn Araniego won, 6-0, 6-0, over Sabrina Meyers and Makalya Storat.

Due to a shortage of players last week, the Hawks were forced to forfeit the No. 3 and No. 4 doubles matches.

On Aug, 28, Becahi traveled to Northampton where the Hawks lost to the Konkrete Kids, 1-5.

Mayer was the lone winner with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Evelyn Ziegler at No. 3 singles.

Mathew lost to Lea Foranotto, 1-6, 5-7, at No. 1 singles, and Dunn lost to Addison Slivka at No. 2 singles, 6-7 (9), 1-6.

In doubles play, Robinson and Araniego fell to Dahlia Janis and Kelly Holland at No. 2 by a score of 2-6, 4-6.

Becahi forfeited the No. 3 and No. 4 doubles matches.

This week, the Hawks will host Freedom on Sept. 4.
