High school golf season gets started

Liberty’s golf team opened its season last Monday with wins over Bethlehem Catholic and East Stroudsburg South, but they suffered a loss to Parkland.

The Hurricanes downed East Stroudsburg South, 452-395, and defeated Bethlehem Catholic, 429-385. They suffered a 395-387 loss to Parkland in a tight match.

“The kids played well overall,” said Liberty head coach Steve Bradley. “They had a good summer, and it was good to get off to a good start.”

Against Parkland, Cameron Rodriguez was the medalist with a 73. He was followed by Jake Wachinski (75), Andrew Erfle (78), John Kintzer (84), and Connor Wieands (85).

“We were ahead by four scores,” noted Bradley about the match with Parkland. “Their seventh guys shot a 78, which flipped the score.”

Bethlehem Catholic, which dropped to 1-2 overall, beat East Stroudsburg South, 452-426, and lost to Parkland, 426-387.

Freedom, who is 2-1 on the season, was beaten by Nazareth, 439-373, but they rebounded with wins over Whitehall (485-439) and East Stroudsburg North (616-439).
