Weisenberg Lutheran Church in New Tripoli recently hosted four evenings of Superhero Vacation Bible School, giving 24 children an opportunity to learn about faith, courage and trusting God.

The program was held Wednesday evenings from July 15 through Aug. 5 and centered on the theme that God can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

“By the end of VBS, each child had earned their ‘Superhero’ status — not because they could fly or possessed super strength, but because they learned that strength, courage, faith and bravery along with trust in God are the greatest superpowers of all,” said Karen Reinert, who provided the account of the program.

Adding to the superhero theme, the children received surprise visits from Batman, Superman, Captain America and Wonder Woman. The superheroes helped introduce the Bible heroes featured during the program.

The children learned about Samson, David, Daniel, Esther and Jesus, exploring how God worked through each of them to accomplish his purposes.]

Each Wednesday evening included Bible stories, crafts, games, snacks, music and fellowship.

“It was a joy to watch friendships grow while faith was strengthened,” Reinert said.

This year’s VBS also included an Adult Bible Study, providing an opportunity for adults to explore the same Bible heroes from a deeper perspective.

“We are especially grateful to our retired pastors for sharing their time and wisdom as they explored these familiar Bible heroes from a deeper perspective, reminding us that these stories contain lessons that continue to challenge and inspire us as adults,” Reinert said.
