Alburtis Borough Council approved a pension benefit adjustment for retired police officers and firefighters and authorized a grant application for a new backhoe at its Aug. 12 meeting.
The adjustment, required under Act 21 of 2026, will increase benefits for eligible retirees. Borough officials said the additional funding is expected to come from state allocations.
Council also approved applying for a Local Share Account grant to help purchase a backhoe for the public works department. The equipment would be used for excavation, drainage work and other maintenance projects. The borough applied for the grant last year but did not receive funding.
Councilman John Aleszcyk raised concerns about stormwater collecting on roads near some homes. Borough Manager Stephen Nemeth said the borough is pursuing grants to address stormwater issues.
The borough solicitor also reported that legal action is continuing to seek the removal of tenants allegedly squatting at the former Alburtis Tavern property on Main Street.
