Vera Cruz Homecoming celebration set for Aug. 16
The Vera Cruz Community Association welcomes all to the annual Vera Cruz Homecoming celebration noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 at Mystic Chain Park, 3718 Main Road East.
This is the 74th anniversary of the event.
Attendees will enjoy music performances by The Rehrig Brothers, a band performing classic and traditional country music, noon to 3 p.m. and TimeWhys, a band specializing in classic rock of the 1960s and 1970s, 5-8 p.m.
Other highlights include a cake walk scheduled 3 p.m. Traditionally, the festivities also include activities for kids and plenty of food.
While making your plan for attending homecoming, consider adding a stop at The Seed Farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road, for the farm’s fifth annual Fall Plant Sale.
The sale is scheduled 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 15 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 16.
The sale is held rain or shine and features cold-tolerant and frost-friendly vegetable, flower and herb plant starters as well as starters for native plants. All starters are pesticide-free, grown without synthetic chemicals and non-GMO.
On a personal note, it was my good fortune to visit the farm for the spring plant sale this year. I highly recommend the experience.
