Lehigh Township man charged in shooting

Officer-involved incident followed response to reported domestic dispute

A Lehigh Township man has been charged following an officer-involved shooting that took place July 29 in the township.

Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team is investigating the incident, which took place approximately 3:51 p.m. when township police were dispatched to the 4100 block of Heritage Lane for a domestic incident between a 49-year-old male and a 71-year-old female.

Upon entering the residence, a confrontation occurred between the male and Lehigh Township Police Department officers. A Taser was ultimately deployed, and the male, Sean Deibert, 49, of Lehigh Township, was shot by an officer.

Deibert was transported by Northampton Regional EMS from the residence to an area hospital.

Deibert has been charged with strangulation, a felony, and simple assault and terroristic threats, both misdemeanors.

This case is being investigated by Troop M Major Case Team. Assisting in this investigation are Northampton County District Attorney’s Office, Troop M Forensic Services Unit and Walnutport Borough, Moore Township, Slatington Borough and Lehigh Township police departments.
