Union United Church of Christ in Neffs will welcome the community for activities in the grove Aug. 1. The PFG Pizza food truck will be on site from 4:30-8 p.m. Entertainment by Woodside Avenue is scheduled from 5:30-8 p.m. Attendees can enjoy free popcorn, the playground and children’s activities. Hot dogs and ice cream will be available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket, or use the covered picnic table area.

The Fellowship Committee of Union UCC, Neffs, also invites the community to a family picnic at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 9 in the grove. Hot dogs, turkey barbecue sandwiches and beverages will be provided. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available. Guests are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. A cake walk and bingo will follow lunch.

A group of 13 Love Your Neighbor churches is working to raise $20,000 to forgive $3 million in medical debt in Lehigh and Northampton counties through Undue Medical Debt. Those interested in contributing or learning more may contact Pastor Kris Anydes at Union UCC, Neffs, at 610-657-6007. Donations will be accepted through Aug. 16. The total amount raised will be announced that day, followed by a community picnic and celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. in the grove.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, is working with North Whitehall Township to establish the church as a warming and cooling center for the community during emergencies. Planning and discussions for the project are underway.

Although rain dampened the Upper Lehigh Lions Club Craft Fair on July 18, it did not diminish the efforts of those who attended. Lions Club volunteers staffed the kitchen and served hot food and baked goods. Vendors who remained set up at noon were positive about the event and eager to discuss their work.

One vendor said she sold enough items to cover the cost of her table and earn a small profit. Another couple showcased painted cement lawn animals and explained how they create the figures. While the weather was less than ideal, participants said the event still generated plenty of positive feelings.
