Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative’s mission is to alleviate food insecurity in Whitehall and Coplay.

We accomplish this by having our food pantry open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4:30-7 p.m. the second and third Thursdays of the month, by appointment only. Additionally, there are two free community meals a month, planned for 4-6 p.m. the first Sunday and the third Tuesday.

Our free community meals provided 867 hot meals from January through June. These meals are attended regularly by Whitehall and Coplay residents. Several faith-based organizations, Whitehall Active Community Center and Whitehall Wawa hosted these meals.

At the pantry in June, WCHI fed 294 households consisting of 370 children, 460 adults and 244 seniors, for a total of 1,074 people. Our highest month this year was February, when we served 326 households consisting of 432 children, 546 adults and 241 seniors, for a total of 1,219 people.

WCHI provides enough food so our guests can prepare five meals per person in their household for the month. Not every guest attends every month, and, on average, seven new households are added each month, consisting of 25 people.

The pantry currently needs all kinds of canned beans including chickpeas, canned fruit, chicken noodle soup, instant oatmeal and boxed cereal. Deliver them to the Re/Max Unlimited office, 1080 Schadt Ave., Whitehall, and put them on the right-side in the foyer 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. This article is also to let you know the poundage of items WCHI received January through June 2026 from the various donors and food drives. I apologize in advance if I forgot to mention anyone.

WCHI received 19,015 pounds of food. This amount does not include the food we obtained from Second Harvest Food Bank. WCHI greatly appreciates everyone’s donations. The poundage numbers are listed after the donated group. All are from Whitehall, unless otherwise noted.
