Lower Mac heads to LVL playoffs

Lower Macungie spent the last week of the Lehigh Valley Legion regular season bouncing back and forth between playing North and South Parkland.

All three games ended in shutouts with the Mustangs coming up on the wrong side of two of the games.

Against North Parkland, Lower Macungie lost 4-0 and won 9-0 in its two games. In the loss, a pair of Buffaloes pitchers – Steve Sepko and Chase Smith – combined to throw a no-hitter and allowed just three walks in the game.

Connor Horwath got the start, and his defense let him down, which led to three unearned runs while Horwath allowed just one earned run in the loss. He struck out eight batters in the game.

In the season finale, Macungie downed North Parkland 9-0. Robbie Barnes delivered a bases-loaded double in the second inning to drive in three runs and Horwath came through with an RBI single in the inning for a quick 4-0 lead.

Barnes finished the game with two hits, adding an RBI single to his three-run double to give him four RBI. Leonardo Soto also had a single and a double to drive in two runs and score two runs in the game for Lower Macungie.

Barnes also threw three shutout innings, and Ryan Hummel threw two shutout innings with both pitchers allowing just one hit.

South Parkland pitcher Mack Parsell held Lower Macungie to just four hits in a 4-0 win to wrap up the regular season. The Mustangs finished 2 ½ games behind the Trojans for the regular season championship in the Lehigh Valley League.

In the finale, Barnes had a double while Jaden Betz, Horwath, and Cameron Pengelly all added singles for Lower Mac.

Pengelly threw two shutout innings and Betz threw one.

Two Lehigh Valley Legion teams will advance to the Region 2 Tournament later this month in Quakertown.

South Parkland gets one of the two spots by virtue of being the regular season champion. The second spot will be the winner of the league playoffs, which will be played this week.
