Old Fashioned Fourth of July concert
The Macungie Band will make its annual appearance at the Old Fashioned Fourth of July celebration at Macungie Memorial Park, 50 N. Poplar Street, Macungie, 11:30 a.m. July 4.
Audience members may relax on the benches in front of the park band shell under shade trees or bring a lawn chair to sit back and enjoy the music.
Associate Director Douglas Bolasky will conduct. Bolasky led the band from 1984 to 2009.
The holiday program is to include the selections “The Spirit of ‘76” by composer Clare Grundman; “St. Louis Blues,” by composer W.C. Handy; “Star Spangled Spectacular” by composer John Cacavas; “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘Oklahoma’,” a medley of favorite songs from the musical arranged by John Edmondson; “Let Freedom Ring” a medley of patriotic songs arranged by Kenny Bierschenk; “Broad Stripes and Bright Stars” by composer Robert Longfield and “Armed Forces: The Pride of America,” a work arranged by Larry Clark and Greg Gilpin featuring the official songs of five of the service branches.
