School board approves work on NASD swimming pool

Work on the Northampton Area School District swimming pool has been approved. The NASD Board of Education voted unanimously 9-0 at the June 15 meeting to approve a $53,000 contract with If It’s Water Inc., Downingtown, Chester County, to acid-pressure wash the pool tile and regrout the pool.

The cost is higher than the swimming pool work cost estimate of $46,000 stated at the May board of education facilities committee meeting.

The project, planned for mid-July, is to take three weeks. Approximately 500,000 gallons of water must first be drained from the pool.

NASD Director of Operations Jonathan Jenny stated at the May facilities meeting that the swimming pool requires routine maintenance every three years.

In other business at the June 15 board meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve the following.

• Megan Coccetti, full-time long-term substitute certified school nurse at Northampton Area Middle School, effective Aug. 17, at $66,666, with benefits

• Joseph Kerbacher, special education teacher at East Allen Elementary School, effective Aug. 17, at $66,055

• Matthew DeGirolamo, technology technician at the technology building, effective June 16, at $32.53 per hour, with benefits

• Douglas Berry, technology technician at the technology building, effective June 16, at $32.53 per hour, with benefits

• Joshua Youwakim, study hall instructional assistant at Northampton Area High School, effective May 22, at $21.38 per hour, with benefits

• John Turk, head custodian at NAHS, effective July 1, at $31.27, and a $2-per-hour rate as working head custodian, plus benefits

• Deborah Vandergrift, hall monitor at NAHS, for retirement, as of June 4

• Meagan Lalama, family and consumer science teacher at NAHS, for resignation, effective May 29

The school board will next meet 6:30 p.m. July 20 in the auditorium at NAHS, 1619 Laubach Ave., Northampton. Board committee meetings are not scheduled in July.

NASD is closed for in-person inquiries because of the transition of resources to the education center on New Seemsville Road, and the 12-month staff are working remotely through July 5. District buildings reopen July 6 for in-person inquiries.

Until the reopening, district and/or individual building concerns are to be sent via the feedback form on the district website, nasdschools.org.
