We are at that time of year when the residents of Catasauqua and North Catasauqua, along with their friends and family, come together to celebrate patriotism and take part in the joyful July 4 celebration.

The J4 Committee, made up of volunteers from both boroughs, is working hard to plan this year’s event of our country’s 250th birthday, which will be held July 4 at the Catasauqua park and other locations. The rain date is July 5.

The celebration will begin 10 a.m. with all the re-enactments, and then the reading of the Declaration of Independence noon at the George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, followed by the opening ceremony at the band shell starting 1 p.m.

Following the opening ceremony, attendees can enjoy food trucks, music, craft tables, flea market vendors, a dunk tank, a cornhole tournament and children’s games hosted by the YMCA. This year’s event will also feature a mega Catasauqua High School reunion, bringing together graduates from every class for a special community gathering. Organizers also look forward to welcoming past and present teachers and staff.

The evening will conclude with Flirtin’ with the Mob 7-9 p.m. and a fireworks display following 9 p.m. at Alumni Field.

The J4 Celebration has been a tradition since 1980 and is held whenever the holiday falls on a weekend. The committee looks forward to another wonderful community event this year!
