Open for season
Coplay Borough’s Parkway Pool, at Second and Keefer streets, opened June 14 with mostly sunny weather with fluffy clouds passing by. With the warm, seasonal weather, the first day attendance was brisk.
The Coplay Public Works Department did an excellent job preparing the pool for a summer season of fun. At its opening, the pool was sparkling under the partly sunny day. The season may culminate in free swimming days during the Coplay Community Days festival, to be held Aug. 28-30.
Aqua Zumba is scheduled for 4:45-5:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the pool at a cost of $6 a session. Aqua Zumba blends the high-energy, Latin-inspired rhythms of traditional Zumba with the natural resistance of water. It is a low-impact, joint-friendly workout that helps tone muscles, boost cardiovascular health and burn calories.
Pool manager Rachael Geiger, of Whitehall, was present and pleasant, offering a smile to pool guests. She said she was excited for the pool opening and expects a successful pool season.
As a first-year pool manager, Geiger said she wants the pool open as much as possible and encourages suggestions from attendees and the general public to make the pool season fun for kids and families.
Geiger noted the 2026 vendor running the pool’s concession stand is a duo of friends Shannin Tumini and Michele Vasquez, with some assistance from John Tumini, Shannin’s spouse. The concession stand staff are from Northampton, and they offer a wide variety of foods, candies and ice creams. They also offer inflatable items to use in the pool.
Lifeguard Elijah Fox, of Whitehall, was eagle eyed on his lifeguard perch as he performed his safety duties. A recent Whitehall High School graduate, he plans to study psychology at Chestnut Hill College.
Three pool staff, lifeguard Kacee Medei and assistant staff member Jordin Tumini, both of Northampton, and lifeguard Alex Puleo, of Whitehall, work as a team with others who are part of the team and spending the summer at the pool.
Puleo plans to enroll in Lehigh Carbon Community College for this fall’s semester. He has not declared a major.
Kacee, a Northampton Area High School junior, plans to attend college after high school but has not picked a college at this point.
Lauren Kurtz and her daughter Emily Sasdi attended the pool and enjoyed their time swimming and sunbathing. Kurtz noted she likes the Coplay pool and plans to visit frequently over the summer.
Season passes for the pool are still available at the Coplay Borough office. Call 610-262-6088 or visit coplayborough.org for information and pricing.
