Borough pool open for season
The opening day of the Northampton Municipal Pool, June 6, was sunny and warm. The temperature reached a warm 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and fluffy clouds floated by throughout the afternoon.
The nice weather bought out a large number of patrons, particularly the young residents, who enjoyed the pool. They waded into the water, swam, used the diving and sliding boards and ate some good food and ice cream from the concession stand.
Brian, Rayanne and Nathan Ruff, of Northampton, staffed the concession stand. Of special note were the delicious cheeseburgers and beef hot dogs grilled to perfection that kept the concession stand busy throughout the day.
Pool admission ticket seller Ana Geiger, a student at Northampton Area High School, staffed the entrance gate with a smile. The admission area changed a couple years ago to promote staff and patron safety. She said she looks forward to her summer working at the pool.
Lifeguard Grant Brobst, of Northampton, was in his perch, watching the patrons in the pool and observing them for their safety. He is a junior at NAHS and plans to enter college after high school graduation next year. When asked, he noted his grandfather is LeRoy Brobst, former borough manager.
Donna Gyurkovics, pool manager, said she was happy and honored to be the manager and looks forward to a successful summer at the pool.
Attendees seemed to enjoy the pool and comfortable ambience of the grounds.
Pool patrons Ron Newhard and Kathy Crayodzy, both from Northampton, enjoyed their day at the pool and expect many pool visits over the summer. Destiny and Grayson Figueroa, of Whitehall, were having fun jumping into the water, with Grayson wearing his inflatable swimmies.
Northampton Borough Council fully supports this quality-of-life amenity in the borough. The Northampton Public Works Department received accolades from council at its June 18 meeting for the diligent labor getting the pool ready to open on time. There were a number of improvements completed, including new pumps and other equipment to make the pool experience enjoyable.
If the weather cooperates throughout the 2026 season, the Northampton pool may be the place to hang out throughout the summer or call in for a pickup order of cheeseburgers, hot dogs and pierogies from the concession stand.
