Nine Tiger boys sign college LOIs

With graduation now in the rear view mirror, many student-athletes are officially preparing for their college careers. Northwestern Lehigh recently saluted seniors who have signed letters of intent to continue their playing careers at the next level.

Nine athletes from boys sports were celebrated for both their academic and athletic careers at Northwestern Lehigh.

Austin Bittenbender, Michael Boring, Egan Boyle, Cannon Fitch, John Kelly, Ethan Konyak, Logan Mesics, Kemurry Morgan, and Caelan Stangil put pen to paper to sign letters of intent to attend various colleges.

Lacrosse player Austin Bittenbender will be attending Penn State – Harrisburg to study engineering. The education is top notch and when Bittenbender met with potential teammates and coaches, he was impressed.

“I met most of the players and the coaches, and they’re all really great guys,” said Bittenbender. “It’s exciting too, because it’s a new program for next year and so it’s up and coming. They’ve got a great group of players and a good coach to back us up, so it’s going to be great.”

Bittenbender also had the opportunity to play with some of his teammates at a camp and had the opportunity to get to know some of them there. If Bittenbender can match the camaraderie at PSU Harrisburg that he had at Northwestern, he’ll be happy.

“We always had a lot of fun at practices and going out to eat together after games, I’m definitely going to miss that,” he said. “I think the atmosphere there might be a little different obviously, but I still think it’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to it.”

Penn State - Lehigh Valley locked up a pair of soccer players for their program by getting Egan Boyle and John Kelly, who will be part of their program for the next season. In all, six soccer players signed letters of intent and will be freshman players at Albright College, Mansfield University, Misericordia University, and Muhlenberg College. Penn State – Berks wasn’t shut out as it added Ethan Konyak from the Tigers’ baseball program.

Cannon Fitch won’t have any Tiger teammates to play with at Immaculata, but he will have a good friend and new roommate in Brian Simock, who played his high school baseball at Northampton High School. The two have developed a good friendship and both chose to attend Immaculata where they will be rooming together.

“I can’t say enough good things about the school,” said Fitch. “Their campus, the coaches, everything. When I went there on a visit, everything just fit into what I was looking for, and I could just see myself going there. The coaches and the new players are what really sold me on it. The current players all really liked the school, too.”

Ursinus College added a pair of football and track and field players from Northwestern Lehigh. Michael Boring and Kemurry Morgan, who both competed on the football field and in track and field will be paired up at Ursinus College.
