K-Kids oust Parkland from D-11 baseball tournament
In a game that stretched over three days because of rain, Parkland saw its season end in the District 11 6A quarterfinals with a 6-2 loss at the hands of Northampton.
When rain stopped the game May 20 in the top of the fourth inning, the K-Kids and Trojans were tied 1-1. The game resumed on Friday, May 22. Northampton scored twice in the top of the fourth and never looked back on its way to victory.
“You obviously want to have a continuous game, but it was the same for both teams,” said Parkland head coach Kurt Weber, Parkland manager. “This particular part of the game, they just played better than us in every aspect of the game.”
With one out and Gavin Caravello on first as play resumed, Northampton’s Jake Raysely reached on an error when he laid down a bunt. After Zach Hartzell grounded into a fielder’s choice to move Caravello to third. Tyler Biechy successfully squeezed home Caravello to give the K-Kids a 2-1 lead.
Parkland’s Jack Streeter, who entered the game in relief of Sawyer Marsteller after Marsteller threw more than 50 pitches on Wednesday, hit Casey Williams and Aidan Sugra to load the bases.
Brady Simock’s bases-loaded walk scored Hartzell, giving the K-Kids a 3-1 lead. Streeter then struck out Jaxon Rutzmoser to end the inning.
Parkland got one back in the bottom of the fourth off Simock, whose pitch count of 49 enabled him to remain in the game after one day of rest.
Chase Brunner led off the inning getting hit by a pitch. After a walk to Grant Damweber, Aiden Henning singled to score Brunner, making it 3-2. Carter DeLong walked to load the bases, but Simock struck out Ben Weninger to end the inning.
Northampton got that run right back on the first pitch in the fifth thanks to a solo home run by Charles Burrell to left-center field.
Parkland stranded two more runners in the bottom of the fifth.
Northampton added two more runs in the top of the sixth.
Williams led off the sixth inning getting hit by a pitch. Sugra followed with a bunt, but the throw to first went into right field, allowing Williams to score all the way from first. Simock hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Sugra for the final run of the game.
Before the rain, each team had scored in the third inning.
Rutzmoser singled to score Sugra, who had singled two hitters before. Parkland got its first run when Weninger singled to score Tsubasa Magota, who had reached on a bunt single.
The loss represents a tough end to the season and to the careers of the Parkland senior class, Weber said.
“The senior class is a good group of guys,” he said. “A lot of them were part of a really special season last year and they had their opportunity this year to be the leaders. Single elimination is a tough format.”
Despite the playoff loss, Parkland did win the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s Lehigh Division.
“That is something we do take pride in,” said Weber. “The kids battled and we are proud of the effort they gave us.”
Defending district champ Parkland ends the season 16-9 overall. The Trojans were 13-3 in the East Penn Conference in 2026.
Northampton went on to lose 3-2 to top seed Allen in the semifinal round of districts. The Canaries met No. 7 seed Stroudsburg in Tuesday’s district title game.
