LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Northampton Area Public Library: Summer program has options for all ages

Summer has arrived at Northampton Area Public Library, and with it comes one of our most anticipated programs of the year — summer reading. The theme this year is Unearth a Story.

Whether you’re a child just discovering the joy of books, a teen looking for a place to connect or an adult ready to make reading part of your summer routine, NAPL has something for you.

Our summer reading program is designed to support lifelong learning, connection and fun across every age group.

Children up to age 10 can build early literacy skills through stories, hands-on activities and engaging weekly programs.

Tweens and teens in grades 6-12 will explore new interests, participate in creative and social events and take ownership of their reading journey.

Adults can rediscover reading for pleasure, explore new topics and join programs designed for relaxation, enrichment and community.

No matter your age, summer reading is about making time for what matters — curiosity, creativity and connection.

Getting started is easy. Register for summer reading at the library or online through ReaderZone. Our program code is 89ef5.

Track which days you read throughout the summer, and earn prizes as you reach milestones. Attend programs to enhance your experience, deepen engagement and earn more.

Participants can read what they love, including books, audiobooks, graphic novels and more. All count!

Unearth a Story at NAPL goes far beyond books. The program includes weekly events and special programs, hands-on activities and creative workshops, guest presenters and community partnerships and drop-in opportunities for flexible participation.

Programs are intentionally designed to be welcoming, inclusive and accessible, ensuring that everyone in our service area can participate.

As part of our continued commitment to teen engagement, this summer highlights expanded opportunities for grades 6-12, including dedicated programs, social activities and space for teens to gather, create and lead.

This work supports our broader initiative to build a strong, teen-centered library experience that reflects the interests and voices of young people in our community.

Summer reading helps prevent learning loss, encourages independent exploration and strengthens community connections. At NAPL, we approach it as a core service, not just a seasonal program. It supports literacy development for children, identity building and belonging for teens and lifelong learning and enrichment for adults.

Unearth a Story will kick off with a family fun day 9 a.m.-noon June 6, and we invite you to be part of it.

Stop by the library to sign up. Check our website and calendar for events, and follow along for updates, highlights and announcements.

Let’s make this a summer of discovery!
